In December 1936 Edward VIII abdicated the throne of England for the woman he loved Wallis Simpson His brother Albert who became George VI ( Queen Elizabeth II 's father )
Edward was given the title of Duke of Windsor and styled Royal Highness He married Wallis in 1937 They remained married until his death 35 years later
